Work Description:
Involves considerable time outside the home.
We are looking for an energetic person with a positive attitude and a desire to help children. The Child Habilitation Specialist provides one-on-one support to a child with Autism or Mental Retardation. Services will take place in the child?s home or in the community. The Child Habilitation Specialist will assist the child with behavior management (safety, decision making, task refusal), life skills (toileting, dressing, eating, basic cooking, phone use) and social skills (stranger awareness, peer interaction, recognizing personal boundaries, expressing wants/needs, greetings/farewells). You will follow the Individual Habilitation Plan to ensure program consistency and you will develop a trusting, mutually beneficial relationship. You must be actively committed towards fostering independence on a natural basis. You are expected to document daily activities, attend quarterly and annual meetings, and assist in updating individual habilitation plans. Work hours are generally after school from 2-3 pm to dinnertime or bedtime (7-9 pm), as well as weekends depending on service time agreements with the family.

Qualifications and Requirements for this Miscellaneous Category position:
Must be 18 years of age
Must have high school diploma or GED
Must pass State background check
Must have reliable transportation
Must have a valid drivers license with good driving record
Must carry 100,000/300,000 liability insurance on vehicle
Must possess good communication, documentation, and support skills
